SPIRITUALITY AND RELIGION

Mulan is one of the films that introduced non-Christian religions and forms of spirituality. It filled with many traditions, practices, and values of the East Asian religion (Ada, 2009). The ancestor worship is showed in this movie: Mulan’s father prayed to their ancestors to protect his daughter throughout her journey, which is why Mushu appeared. In addition, upholding the family honor has been emphasized in this film. For instance, Mulan’s father is steadfast in serving the war even if this means he will die. Filial piety is another spirituality that was showing in the movie and it is fundamental to Confucianism and Buddhism. It can be seen as Mulan risked her life to protect her father.
