CONCLUSION
Disney movies have always influenced people especially youth on religious ideas and values. They are globally influential, and their stories often mirror values found in or imported from Western society such as individualism. In Mulan, she broke the traditional expectations, and prove herself instead of hiding the “real” her and accepting decisions made by her parents and society. She is a role model for all girls following their own hearts.
Though the film presents individualism, which is familiar in western culture but also introduces certain authentic aspects of Chinese religion. The main theme of the movie is family ties: Mulan’s filial love and choosing to serve in the army, even though she is a woman so that her father would not suffer; Mulan’s family pray to ancestors for Mulan’s life and family’s honor. Although, Mulan did not honor her family in the way she was expected, in a different way where she saved China.
